Acne Keloidalis Nuchae Procedures

The use of the Nd:YAG 1064nm laser can help reduce the size of the Acne Keloidalis Nuchae tissue growths.

The wavelengths will enter the follicle, causing the release of the hair shaft responsible for triggering the inflammation.

A 2009 research study was performed at the University of Cairo to investigate the effects of the Nd:YAG laser on Acne Keloidalis Nuchae. The subjects received one treatment per month for six months.

At the end of this period, researchers found that the number of bumps had decreased substantially. And the size of the lesions also became smaller.

Removing AKN Tissue With Surgery

Surgery can also be used to excise the AKN tissue mass.

Patients should be aware that proper techniques need to be applied to make sure that the wound closes.

Usually the Acne Keloidalis Nuchae tumor is excised as an elliptical shape. However using sutures to close it right after the surgery can inhibit the normal range of head motion.

So surgeons need to apply techniques that would allow the wound to close by itself over the course of several weeks.

Leaving the wound open to allow new skin to grow is one form of healing. But there is the risk of the Acne Keloidalis Nuchae returning. This is what happened with this patient.
