Patient with Advanced Acne Keloidalis Nuchae

This patient had Acne Keloidalis Nuchae for six years before his surgery.  He had tried to improve his condition by taking oral medication.  Drugs can help alleviate symptoms like itching, pain and discharge. However they will not get rid of the lesions. The patient experienced this after seeing no results from his prescription treatment.

The patient describes how he avoided going to the barber because of his AKN.  Although Acne Keloidalis Nuchae initially looks like acne bumps, they develop into plaques and large tumors on the back of the head.  Hair loss also occurs in the affected region.

The only way to get rid of the unsightly tissue growth is to excise it with surgery. This patient was left with a horizontal scar. However it was strategically positioned along the posterior hairline.  This makes it far less noticeable.

The patient was quite happy with his results.  Social situations become less stressful for many individuals after their Acne Keloidalis Nuchae surgeries.
